PRESSURE FOR COMPANIES TO ACT DUE TO THE SUPPLY CHAIN ACT
The Supply Chain Act defines requirements for responsible supply chain management and requires companies to sustainably obtain a sound overview of the supply chain. The aim is to improve the international human rights situation and protect the environment. The requirements will apply from 2023 for companies with over 3,000 employees and from 2024 for companies with over 1,000 employees. Fines for violations range from 100,000 euros to 2 per cent of the average annual turnover.
THE CONSEQUENCE: A CONSIDERABLE ADDITIONAL EXPENSE
- The auditing of suppliers must be documented
- Supplier contracts are to be reviewed, revised if necessary or even renegotiated
- A reporting facility and a regulated procedure are needed to deal with grievances
- The political-social framework conditions in the countries and regions of the suppliers are to be taken into account
